Triathlon superstar Craig Alexander is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to the return of his very valuable customised bikes. If you have any information, please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
The two bikes plus parts, together worth over $25,000, were stolen on Sunday night from the garage of his home at Cronulla, in Sydney's south.
"It's a disruption to training and a pain in the backside to be honest," he said today.
While the racing bike that was stolen is worth about $15,000, it will be difficult to sell as it is fitted with a number of rare parts that make it easily identifiable. In addition to running a Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 electronic shifting package, the bike was also fitted with a one-of-a-kind Dura-Ace 7900 series crankset fitted with a prototype SRM power. The serial numbers on the power meter have been provided to police to aid in identification.
"I don't know how these people work, they probably just offload it somewhere for a couple of hundred dollars," he said.
"This is not just an ordinary bike, if they bring it back I will make sure they get another one in its place."
Alexander said there was only one other similar bike in Australia and it would "stick out like a sore thumb" on a website like eBay.
"I would put $1000 up if I get the bike back in one piece," he said.
Alexander said he was planning to race the bike in an upcoming international competition in Singapore in less than three weeks and his training has been hampered by the loss of it.
The Ironman World Championships, which Alexander won in 2008 and 2009, are due to be held in Hawaii in October.
Goods were also stolen from three other garages in the apartment complex in which Alexander lives.
None of the residents heard anything and the burglaries are believed to have taken place between 9pm on Sunday and 7am yesterday.
