DEORE—Offering the Enjoyment of Riding around Fields and Mountains on Bicycles

SHIMANO DEORE was introduced as a full-fledged components series for touring at the beginning of the 1980s. DEORE was a coined word from deer, representing the touring scene with riders splendidly riding around fields and mountains on bicycles while enjoying cycling. DEORE XT was derived as mountain bikes (MTBs) were spreading in earnest from 1980. From the 1990s, Shimano rolled out SHIMANO DEORE as a middle-grade component series for MTBs. In the 2000s, it was widely mounted on trekking bikes. Currently, as a component series for MTBs meeting every demand from touring to full-scale cross country (XC) races, SHIMANO DEORE is communicating the enjoyment of cycling to many people while offering functionality trickled down from higher-end models and succeeding to the concept embraced in its name. This is a historic components series that has long been Shimano’s core off-road touring series.
