SHIMANO 105

Gateway Road Components Series Combining Functionality and Beauty

As a components series below DURA-ACE and SHIMANO 600 Series (later SHIMANO ULTEGRA), Shimano developed SHIMANO 105 mainly for urban and sports rides in 1982 under the concept of sports. The first model won popularity from many riders as it had a beautiful design bearing a golden arrow inscription and targeted at a wide range of users through its affordable prices even though it offered the racing functionality trickled down from higher-end models. SHIMANO 105 was suitable for use in a variety of situations, from fitness and leisure rides to everyday life. After introducing and improving lower-end series, SHIMANO 105 grew into one of the components series for full-fledged road bikes that meet the demands of road racing. SHIMANO 105 has established itself as the components series for cycle sport, offering the enjoyment of road riding to a wide range of riders by introducing different models, including a short reach lever configuration model for women and juniors with small hands.
