BB-X

Lever Brake Series for Enjoying Exciting Fighting

BB-X was released in 1983 as a spinning reel for surf fishing equipped with a brake lever. It was equipped with a Barasan Brake System, which enabled winding while the brake was being applied. The product was so named by combining BB, an abbreviation of Barasan Brake, with High Power X, Shimano’s rod structure at that time. Subsequently, the TWIN POWER BB-X rod was also released. In 1990, the combination of a reel and a rod was marketed based on the unconventional and innovative white design. The response from the industry was so enthusiastic that “BB-X for White” became a watchword. In 1997, Shimano developed the Hyper Brake Lever, which was characterized by a new lever shape. In 2002, it developed the Twin Brake Lever, which was equipped with two levers. In 2015, Shimano developed the SUT Brake, which was designed to stop the handle during reverse rotation, despite extreme difficulties from the initial phase of the development project. Both the reels and rods have continued to evolve over more than 30 years to meet the expectations of surf fishing anglers.
