Iconic Round Reels with a Beautiful Finish Using an Aluminum Frame

CALCUTTA was released in 1991 as a baitcasting reel for bass fishing. The unique, beautiful round reel derived from precise cutting attracted global attention. It featured not only a beautiful appearance but also full-fledged functionality, including a one-piece machine-cut aluminum frame, which was designed pursuing rigidity and minimal strain, and a centrifugal brake, which produced smooth rotation. In 2000, CALCUTTA CONQUEST was released as the flagship model of CALCUTTA. Equipped with the Super SHIP giant master gear, CALCUTTA CONQUEST aimed to attain ever higher functionality and design. In 2003, the DC (Digital Control) brake was used for the first time in Shimano’s reels. Through the constant introduction of cutting-edge technologies, CALCUTTA continues to evolve while meeting various applications as an iconic round reel characterized by beauty and functionality.
