Special Series that Helped Spread Tairaba, a Traditional Fishing Method, across Japan

In the 2000s, Shimano focused on tairaba (saltwater rubber jigging), a unique fishing method that was not popularly known at that time. Shimano decided to develop products for tairaba because the fishing method was profound and easy to enjoy. Shimano released the OCEA Engetsu rod and the Engetsu lure in 2007 and commercialized a baitcasting reel in 2009 to offer a full lineup of the series. Subsequently, tairaba spread across Japan, and it has been booming as a popular fishing category. For reels, a digital counter and fall lever have been used. For rods, Shimano developed the X SEAT Extreme Gun Grip, a new grip structure. Shimano pursues functions suitable for tairaba and deploys an extensive lineup to continue to meet the growing expectations.
