BMX Racing Components Series Coinciding with Inclusion as Olympic Sport
BMX has become popular across the world especially among young people and many BMX competitions are held. Since BMX was included as an Olympic sport from the 2008 Summer Olympics, Shimano released SHIMANO DXR as a BMX racing components series. Capitalizing on its technical capabilities and experience accumulated in the development of road bikes and mountain bikes, Shimano designed it to offer all the functionality required in BMX races. It had a heavy-duty design; the ultra-rigid crankset and the FREEHUB body with little play that boasted excellent rotational performance produced instantaneous force at start and jumping force on BMX courses and absorbed impact. In addition, V-BRAKES, which are lightweight and simple, with little risk of failure, were adopted.
