On August 24 (Sat.) and 25 (Sun.), Shimano Inc. held the 39th Shimano Suzuka Road, a road race festival for everyone from beginners to experts, at Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture. In addition to solo and 2-4 person teams, ladies, and JCF registration, the most popular race category, “2-hour endurance,” a new category was added: pairs, trios, and quartets, in which riders aim for the finish line together with their friends instead of taking turns one at a time.
As in the previous year, a wide range of initiatives continued to be implemented, including the “Virtual Shimano Suzuka Road,” which allowed riders to participate in the event online from anywhere, and the live streaming of race commentary and various events on YouTube over the two days, as well as the “39th Shimano Suzuka The 39th Shimano Suzuka Road Race Classic, held for the fifth time this year as a JCF-sanctioned race, allowed support cars to race, adding even more excitement to the high-level racing that could be seen and experienced up close.
The official Shimano Suzuka Road App was also introduced for this year's race, replacing the event program booklet and participation certificates and consolidating functions such as registration and management of the race schedule, greatly improving convenience.
The event welcomed a total of approximately 7,500 participants over the two days, and their smiling faces shone brightly as they enjoyed the sport of cycling at the lively venue. Shimano has been organizing such events for many years, which have been created by our employees ourselves, to provide not only competitions but also opportunities for a wide range of users to enjoy bicycles and to convey the appeal of bicycles to them. Going forward, we will strive to create events that enhance everyone’s enjoyment even further.
