Shimano promotes the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) of plastics.
In 2024, we improved some fishing gear by adopting recycled plastic made from runners (scrap plastic) generated in the plastic molding process for Shimano's bicycle components.
The plastic materials used in bicycle components are highly durable and water-resistant, so even when recycled, the material properties are maintained at a high level. For this reason, the improved fishing gear is of high quality even though recycled materials are used.
We will continue to pursue sustainable manufacturing through collaboration across departments.
