Bringing the Joy of Cycling to Children

Culture

Shimano Latin America supports the non-profit organization Pedala Queimados, which works to drive social transformation through cycling by creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship, raising civic awareness, and promoting equality.
Based in the suburban area of Queimados in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, Pedala Queimados is dedicated to empowering local communities through initiatives such as cycling events, basic bicycle maintenance courses, and various workshops.
As part of these efforts, “Bike de Cria” (Bike for Kids) is one of the projects supported by Shimano Latin America. In 2022, 14 balance bikes (pedal-less bicycles) were donated to children in the region. Since then, Pedala Queimados has utilized these bikes to provide ongoing opportunities for young children to engage with cycling, including visits to public schools and childcare facilities.
This initiative has since evolved into an annual event, the “Bike de Cria Festival,” which integrates education, sports, and cycling culture. In 2026, the festival marks its third consecutive year, continuing as a community-rooted initiative.
